Ahlulbayt News Agency: Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi reiterated Tehran’s position on the compulsory withdrawal of all American forces from the region.
“We, as the Islamic Republic, have several times declared our official and unchangeable position on the US troops pullout from the entire region. This does not mean withdrawal from only Iraq or stop of interference in other countries’ affairs, rather Iran believes that security of the region should be established by the regional states. When we speak of the region it includes Iraq and other countries,” Masjedi told the Arabic-language al-Alam news channel.
He stressed the Iraqi officials’ seriousness in implementing the parliament’s approval on expelling the foreign forces, and said Iran always supports independence of all countries, including Iraq.
Masjedi referred to the US assassination of former IRGC Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in Iraq and Iran’s response by attacking the American forces’ base in the country, and said, “If the Americans make a mistake and take an action against us, certainly, we will give a decisive response and if they threaten and attack the resistance leaders and bases, certainly the resistance will react and defend itself.”
